The Assault on Fatherhood

First they came for unemployed fathers
with child support arrearages
and I did not speak out
because I had a job
Then they came for fathers
falsely accused of domestic violence and child abuse
and I did not speak out
because I had never been falsely accused
Then they came for professional fathers
and I did not speak out
because I had no professional license
Then they came for fathers
who wanted to drive
and I did not speak out
because I had no car
Then they took high school sports away
from unwed teenage fathers
and I did not speak out-
because I was no longer a teen
Then they came for fathers
who wanted a no-fault divorce
and I did not speak out
because I wanted no part of divorce
Then they came for me-
and there was no one left
to speak out for me
